Singer and songwriter Tems made history at the 65th Annual Grammy awards after becoming the first Nigerian female artiste to win a Grammy.
Temilade Openiyi, real name, won a Grammy through 'Wait for You" - a song she was featured in Future and Drake.
The song won the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category.
The 2023 Grammy awards were held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, US with comedian Trevor Noah as the host of the Night.
Nigerian superstar, Burna Boy failed to shine at the awards as he walked home empty-handed. He had been nominated in two categories.
He lost the Best Global Song performance for which 'Last Last' was nominated and Best Global Album for which 'Love, Damini' was nominated.
South Africa’s Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini & Nomcebo Zikode defeated the Nigerian singer’s ‘Last Last’ to claim the award for the Best Global Music performance.
Burna Boy’s album, “Love Damini” also lost the best Global Music Album award to Japan’s Masa Takumi.
Beyonce became the biggest winner in history, after receiving her 32nd trophy at the ceremony.
Harry Styles won the album of the year for “Harry’s House.”
Other award winners were: Samara Joy (best new artist), Lizzo (record of the year), and Bonnie Raitt (song of the year).
