Nairobi Azimio MCAs have given the government 12 hours to release Korogocho MCA Absalom Odhiambo Onyango.

Led by majority leader Peter Imwatok, the MCAs on Monday condemned the recent arrest of the ward rep.

“Dictatorship is back, the Moi era is back. We want Absalom released unconditionally within 12 hours,”Imwatok said.

As a result, the Azimio MCAs further challenged the Kenya Kwanza government to arrest their leader Raila Odinga, who they are following his orders.

“I want to challenge the entire government, you know who is supposed to be arrested. Kindly arrest Raila Amollo Odinga. That is the man who tells us to go right and we go,” Imwatok said.

Before noon, Odhiambo popularly known as Mattach was picked by the DCI sleuths at the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) offices where he had been summoned over alleged incitement remarks.

He was accompanied by his lawyer Apollo Mboya and Imwatok at the time of the arrest.

His arrest follows a viral video captured at the Kamukunji rally where he uttered unprintable words criticising the Kenya Kwanza government amid a stirred-up crowd of Azimio supporters.

He was thus summoned by the Rev Samuel Kobia-led commission which stated that such comments created unnecessary tension that if not well managed could plunge the country into chaos.

According to Imwatok, when he arrived with Odhiambo at the NCIC offices in Upperhill at Britam there were no officials to receive them.

“ We sat more than one hour and when the officers came they said there was no problem and they wanted to serve Mattach with a summon letter to appear before them on Wednesday,” he said.

However, after leaving the officers and just outside the building, the majority leader revealed that they found three Subaru foresters and officers who grabbed the Korogocho legislator and sped away.

Luckily, Imwatok and the lawyer captured the vehicle's number plates and even took clear pictures of the officers for evidence.

A few minutes later, it was revealed that the Korogocho ward rep was being detained at Kikuyu police station in Kiambu county following his abrupt arrest.

“ We know by law that if you are arrested within Nairobi, you are taken to the nearest police station. Unfortunately, we are told that Mattach is in Kiambu county and he is in Kikuyu police station and no one is allowed to see him,” Imwatok said.
