"Words really fail me. I'm sad and it pains to actually write this about this Phenomenal woman who inspired me to pursue a career in journalism."
Condolences and personal anecdotes poured in after news of Catherine Kasavuli's death on Thursday, as celebrities and public figures alike reacted to her passing.
The legendary TV host and media personality died at age 60 at Kenyatta National Hospital, according to the KBC Acting MD.
Betty has described her death as terribly sad, reminiscing how she would tune in to the night broadcast every single day to watch Kasavuli read the news.
"I used to watch her and try to sound like her. Since I was so young I never missed watching 9 pm News when she was anchoring. I loved her poise, articulation, grace, and professionalism. She made me stand in front of the mirror every day and mimic how she read the news the previous night. It's because of who she was that I became a celebrated News anchor."
Betty had an opportunity to interview Kasavuli and to date rates it as the best thing she has done on TV
"I never got to work with her but I remember when I interviewed her on my show on KTN Friday Briefing. I was so nervous to meet her because I was like I needed to even try to match her as we presented the news together that evening.
She was so sweet, very giggly, and charming. She was joyous and she kept saying how proud she was of me and my rise from being an intern. We had fun that night. It was my favorite show I ever hosted. She was so so cool and full of life. She was like a big sister that night. Today, I choose to celebrate you. Thank you for inspiring many young girls to pursue their dreams fiercely. You were great and still will be even with your passing."
Many other media personalities have echoed Betty's sentiments about being inspired and mentored by the late.
From Jacque Maribe, to Kambua, Mashirima Kapombe, Lilian Muli, Naisula Lesuuda, and Ferdinand Omondi, all spoke of how her great career had got them into the media indisutry.
