Gospel singer Evelyn Wanjiru has recounted how she learnt she was pregnant with her first child, Mshindi.

Evelyn learnt she was pregnant while on a music trip to the US.

Sharing her testimony at the 'Praise Atmosphere 2022' concert, she said she could not believe she was pregnant since she had already given up.

"When I tested and found out that I was pregnant, I stayed in the bathroom for some time and my host thought I was not okay since I was just crying," she said.

Evelyn said she was in a season of mourning her father-in-law.

She shared that there was a time her mum had prayed and asked God to take her womb and give it to her since the waiting was too long.

"That was the hardest prayer she ever made to God before me. When I called her and informed her that I was pregnant, she just started crying and praising God," Evelyn said.

Her husband did not call her again and the next time he did, he said he was waiting for his family at the airport.

"I had to cancel my US tour and come back immediately since I did not want people to start thinking that I got pregnant there," she said.

Evelyn said when her husband turned 40 years in 2021, all she wanted was to get pregnant for him. 

She said when she could not pray anymore, she decided to cut her hair and start over again.

"I was at that point where I was tired and overwhelmed. I had to cut my hair and people said I looked good but they didn't know why," she said, adding that her husband Agunda was angry with her.

Evelyn said that welcoming her son 10 years after getting married has strengthened her faith.
