President Ruto asks cops to use firearms on criminals if in danger

Ruto said police can use firearms when in danger and not let criminals be in control.

President William Ruto has echoed Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome's words on police using firearms when in danger.

Ruto said police can use firearms when in danger and not let criminals be in control adding that police have the necessary support and equipment to address insecurity.

The President spoke at State House during a Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary group meeting on Wednesday.

He said criminals will not be allowed to run the city and keep putting people lives at risk.

"We cannot allow criminals to overrun our cities or any part of Kenya. We have given you the instruments. You have the backing of the law to make sure we deal with criminals firmly, decisively, conclusively in accordance with the law and the constitution," Ruto said.

“If any officer is in danger, they must use their firearms to deal with the criminals, we cannot allow criminals to overrun our cities or any part of Kenya.”

The President said the police should have no excuses when dealing with the current crime wave in the country.

“Police are on it. They have instructions and the support they need to fight insecurity around the country. They have no excuses,” he said.

Ruto had earlier said that together with the interior ministry, he will ensure that Kenya is set free from criminals, bandits, cattle rustlers and terrorists.
