While the celebrations were going on a Kenyan on Twitter gave his hilarious account of attempting to join recruits in the hopes of being selected to join KDF.
Nicsaburi on Twitter recounted
"My cousin and I came close to joining the Military in the late 2000s, Young fresh full of energy (Our plug was buddies with a Gen Mathenge) We only had 1 job, get through the 1st Phase (Running). A simple run to Chembulet and back to Iten (perspective Iten-Chembulet is like..."
He failed miserably, and to date, it lives in his memory.
"Nairobi-Kinungi). Important to note he had even bought us running shoes like 3 months before, recruitment day was tense,
The "air" in these exercises oozes discipline. I for a moment Saw myself in those uniforms barking orders and jumping off helicopters(Vietnam war movie)"
He continued to narrate how he saw himself running around bare-chested saving the country.
"Saving my Country, then bare chested, Mbio ikaanza land rover Ile Iko na manderema in tow towards the turning point -Chembulet. Kidogo kidogo a sea of humanity Infront of me are running at a world record pace. By the time tunatoka Iten township I'm lost completely in my..."
He had such high hopes of passing the exercise to be deployed to war-torn countries and defend Kenya.
"Thoughts...is it a Marathon race? Kufika Junction ya kamariny the first group, like 5000 of them are on their way back.
By the time tunarudi Iten tumechoka Kama wale magogo wazungu, recruitment iliisha kitambo, tukalamba glucose,Na kujiambia heri tu tulime viazi forest"
He noted that he has profound respect for the members of KDF.
"Nikipatana na KDF officers I salute kimoyomoyo"
KOT was curious how he explained failing to pass the test to his family.
He told of his smart answer
"Our "godfather" alijam Mbaya, we had let him down, I came in number 2,970 huko,"Cutline" ilikua around 300... Safari ya nyumbani ilikua nyuma ya pickup. Home ni kukoroga story tulifika finals scar ya mguu ilinitoa, you can't lose twice."
All in all, he is grateful for the experience and attempt to be a worthy member of KDF
