Maina Kageni offered to help a caller during the Morning Conversation show. The caller had called to give her opinion on why women stay in abusive marriages.

Narrating her story to Maina Kageni, *Rachel said that she was sold off to an old man by her mum, sadly she has since contracted HIV/AIDS.

"I got married at the age of 13 unfortunately I am HIV positive. The marriage was hell, He would sexually abuse me."

Rachel said life was not easy as she was also taking care of her brother.

"I had my brother who I was taking care of. I am now a mum of 3 at 3o and I currently weigh 42 kgs. That guy destroyed my life. I am a class 7 drop out so yes men can destroy your life. I have no papers so I cannot get a job."

Rachel says that when she left her abusive marriage no one supported her.

"When I had had enough and I went home and when my mum saw me she asked me 'nimekujia nini'."

Maina went on to encourage such women to stop staying in abusive marriages because of the toxicity the children get exposed to.

"Someone will take your number and I will see what I can do to help. There is nothing that is worth the toxicity and risking your life."

There is life outside that house.

"The stupidity of 'I am there because of the kids' is what is making people die."

According to studies, most stay in abusive marriages because they are not financially stable while others stay because they apparently have nowhere to go.

It is better to be single than to stay in a toxic marriage as some end up dead.
