Media personality Anita Nderu is celebrating one year since she held a traditional wedding with her white husband Barret Raftery.

Anita Nderu's traditional wedding took place at the Fort Smith Gardens in Loresho.

In an intimate affair attended by close friends and family, guests were dressed in African print attires.

While reminiscing on the day, Anita showered her husband with sweet words explaining that the one year now feels like she has known him for the rest of her life.

"Happy Tradiversary to us. I Love this man so freaking much. Feels like I have known him my whole life!

A year ago today we were sipping muratina, sitting through endless negotiations and celebrating the merging of two families and cultures with our families, relatives, bride and groom tribe, and close friends."

In the post, Anita explained that her husband gifted her parents with a camel.

"So much has happened since then, it's incredible how time flies beautifully when doing life with your person.

Also, The camel he got my Mum is still chilling and making friends in her new home, took us a while to figure out how to make a camel a pet."

Before her wedding which took place on the 9th of September 2021, Anita shared a short story of how they met and their growing love.

"One of our favorite couples Ivy and Andrew introduced us to each other, she put us in a Whatsapp group and exited once we said hello.

When the whole world was shut down due to the pandemic, we sheltered in place on different continents talking for hours each day and getting to know each other for months and months.

When the chance finally came to meet in person after many canceled flights, we convened in Zanzibar and the rest is history.

We moved in together thereafter and it worked out great because both of us happened to work in Kenya most of the year.

Barrett then introduced me to his family and I was taken by how amazing they are and felt right at home, then Barrett finally met my parents late last year and has had to eat an insane amount of goats as a result of traditional ceremonies that were done as a way of accepting him into the family and permitting him to ask for my hand in marriage. They love him dearly!

Barrett proposed on the 31st of March 2021 and now our love story continues.

We are honored to have you celebrate with us and are super excited to merge our worlds and share the rest of our lives."
