Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika stunned Kenyans during her inauguration ceremony after photos of her official car went viral on social media.

On Thursday, Kihika was officially sworn-in as the Nakuru Governor taking over from Lee Kinyanjui who even ignored her inauguration ceremony.

However, a section of Kenyans were quick to notice Kihika’s official car – a 2020 Land Rover Defender.

The vehicle that retails between Sh15 million to Sh20 million sparked an endless discussion on social media. A section of Kenyans questioned why the Nakuru County government went for such an expensive car yet they could have settled on something cheaper.

It is yet to be established which office the high-end car is assigned to.

Following the August 9 polls, Susan was elected as the first woman governor of Nakuru county, garnering 440,707 votes, against the incumbent Lee Kinyanjui’s 325,623 votes

Kihika was elected on the UDA ticket. In 2013, she contested the Bahati parliamentary seat but lost.

Kihika went on to defeat a field of seven opponents, to become the first Nakuru Assembly Speaker.

In 2017, the former Speaker, then in the Jubilee Party, made her debut in the 12th Parliament after she garnered 637,700 votes for the Nakuru Senate seat.

Away from Nakuru, Kimani Wamatangi, the Kiambu governor also showed up at his inauguration an expensive black Mercedes- Benz G wagon.

The Mercedes-Benz G wagon is a very powerful and luxurious SUV, that retails between Sh12 million to Sh33 million depending on the model and year of manufacture.

In Nairobi, Johnson Sakaja and his deputy Njoroge Muchiri were treated to a ride in the official county government vehicle – a Rolls-Royce.

The car, which cost Sh217,000 when it was purchased in 1966, is typically utilized for special occasions like holidays.
