Nigerian pastor Dr Gospel Agochukwu Jp has been forced to defend a post he put up on his Facebook asking his followers to increase tithe as the economy is bad.

He wrote;

"Economy is bad. Everything has gone up. Stop giving God 10%. I give 70% you can take your own decisions pls. But just increase in your kingdom investment things are on the high side."

The man of God sternly warned people against giving God only 10% while lamenting over the situation of things in the country.

Gospel Agochukwu also revealed that he has been giving about 70% of his tithe to God every month as his tithe and he suggests that other believers follow his footsteps.

Reacting to the pastor's message, some of his online fans said his statement indicated that he was viewing the church as a business venture.

One fan said;

"There are certain things only your congregation and the people you shepherd will understand, not every spiritual matter should discussion in a public space, you'll be greatly misunderstood and criticised, whether joke or not.......one love."

Well, the Nigerian pastor has since apologised to those his post on the issue of tithe have confused and he asked for their forgiveness.

He clarified stating that the only church's economy was still thriving and nothing ever goes up.

Here is his apology message;

"A DIDACTIC / ALLEGORY STATEMENT UPTURNED AND LATER TAKEN SERIOUS. My Last post on 'ECONOMY IS BAD INCREASE YOUR TITHE' Was clearly misunderstood by a large number of people.

I was trying to say the economy of the nation is bad and everything is expensive but nothing in Gods house has gone up hence the church is the only economy thriving in times like this.

And people should applaud the church for that. Church still does charity, run expenses, pay salaries.

Banks close by 2pm now, so many private sectors have downsized their staff strength, universities are closed but none of this has happened to any connected to the church of christ.

However i accept every criticism, insults and contrary views and i apologise for those who this might have confused on the issue of tithe and i do not intend to mislead anyone please forgive me if you didn't understand me clearly.

Bible stated 10 % but you cannot be forced or coarsed to give.

The Apostles gave all they had...This issue varies depending on the level of your faith and personal relationship with God.

I personally replied Daddy Freeze because of the way he attacks men of God and the church.

He also asked me for scriptures and i gave him some.

Thank you God bless.

Evang Dr Gospel Agochukwu Jp."
