Have you gotten the sweater weather memo yet?

Nairobi is in some sort of London kind of weather where greetings have now shifted to how are you doing in this chilly morning/afternoon/evening, depending on the time at that particular moment.

People have been complaining saying that it's only June and Nairobi already feels like a refrigerator with others confessing how the cold weather has kept them away from the shower for days.

However, in a weather forecast released by the Kenya Metrological Department on Friday, June 24, temperatures were primed to go as low as 5 degrees celsius.

Kenya MET department stated that the country would experience prolonged cloudy hours with very few sunny intervals.

As a result, Kenyans have been advised to bundle up warmly during this chilly weather to protect themselves from diseases related to cold.

Some of the respiratory diseases related to cold weather include; flu, common cold, pneumonia, and asthma.

If you take a glimpse on the streets you can actually tell that the unbearable weather has resulted in people wrapping themselves up in heavy cardigans, jackets, scarfs, gloves, etc.

Other than that, Kenyans seem to have missed the sunny days already. Take a look at some of the complaints I have bumped into on the streets of social media.

"I miss those days I used to wear spaghetti tops and minis, but this weather is not just it""Has it ever been this cold in Nairobi or I'm getting old?"

"9 months from now we will have baridi(cold) kids pap."People are warming food for thought."

"I fear that my bank account has actually been frozen."

"I have to iron my night dress before I sleep."Here are a quick few tips on how to keep warm-Dress up warmly in clothes made from wool, cotton, or fleecy fabrics."

But Mpasho has you covered as far as this cold weather goes. Check out our tips below;

-When indoors, put on socks and slippers to keep your feet cosy so you dont lose body heat.

-Use a heater or a humidifier to warm up your living area.

-Keep as active as possible to boost your circulation by doing light exercises and moving around after some time.

-Avoid sitting still for long periods.

-When you do sit down, put your feet up as it’s coldest nearest the ground.

-Have regular hot beverages and food such as porridge, soups, and stews.

-Avoid taking alcohol as this draws heat from the core of your body out onto the surface of your body, therefore it makes you lose heat.

-Spend more time upstairs, if you have multiple levels to your home, aim to spend more time on the upper level to take advantage of the warmer air there.

You could even move your home office or TV from downstairs to upstairs over the colder months to have a cozier setting.
