Janet passed on 18th October 2021 after battling a blood disorder called aplastic anaemia. At the time, she was married to Brian Kipchumba Karonney.
A month before her demise, Zia asked for help from Kenyans to facilitate her travel for treatment abroad.
Doctors had recommended a bone marrow transplant.
"The cost of the treatment is approx Sh10 million and will take 4-6 months before she can return to Kenya," Zia wrote at the time.
"We are appealing for funds from her family and friends to help get her the treatment she urgently needs. We know recent times have been really tough on all but any little you can donate will be greatly appreciated and will help towards getting her treatment and back home to her family.”
To celebrate a life well-lived, Zia posted a heartfelt Instagram reel where she revealed one of her sister's favourite songs.
In the video, one can see Zia and her late sister dancing to Major Lazer song, Particula, which features an ensemble of African rappers, including Nasty C and Jidenna.
