Former Miss Universe Rachel Mbuki has given her thoughts on the ongoing fiasco involving Kenyan influencers and how they dressed for the launch of Fenty.
US superstar Rihanna officially launched Fenty in Kenya on Friday at a star-studded event.
Many influencers who specialise in fashion and makeup were not invited to the launch and thus an online battle ensued between the Gen Z make-up artists and the popular social media influencers who do not necessarily do fashion and beauty.
Well, the former beauty queen who is now based in the states stepped in and provided some sober advice.
"I hate to say this but dear Kenyans, Fenty doesn't give a damn who wore what to where. To westerners, Africa is just Africa. They barely ever remember it's a continent. I promise you they weren't expecting y'all to "kill it"."
Adding, "They don't care. You're just numbers on a board to show their "global reach". I promise they aren't sitting at their headquarters going 'Yikes, those Kenyan influencers can't dress!'."
Mbuki explained, "It's funny what a big deal y'all are making of it when to them you're really non factors. Only reason they probably posted Nigeria and SA on their timelines is because when Americans think Africa those are usually the two countries that come to mind.
Sorry to break to y'all but the rest are really non-factors. So just kick back, drink your Tusker, eat your nyam chom and enjoy the overpriced, overhyped products and give your influencers a break. Quite sure they weren't paid to be there."
A bemused Mbuki advised that the brand needs us more than we need it as such they should work hard to impress the masses.
"They should be happy that any of you showed up at all. Nonsense. Wakenya mjifunze kujiheshimu aki. Mnapendal kudharauliana halafu kukazana kuimpress foreigners sana. In fact mgekuja hata na slippers za Bata na leso. Let them impress YOU and prove to you why they deserve your money."
