• "I take it very seriously. I’m thinking of how I can promote our music from back home, so for every song I do I have to make sure I don’t let my people down." - Diamond
Bongo superstar Diamond Platnumz is currently in London to promote his EP First of All - FOA. Diamond is on a mission to conquer the world with his music.
His latest music video Wonder panders to the whims of Nollywood movie lovers. The song is about Diamond seeking the hand of a Nigerian princess and all the pomp and circumstance that goes with that.
Days after the video was released, Diamond lost his YouTube account to a hacker, however, his management recovered the account.
"Thank you my beloved...my Youtube channel is back, Enjoy my brand new video #WONDER 🌍" Diamond announced.
Speaking to DJ Edu on This is Africa on BBC World Service radio, Diamond shade some light on what he has been up to.
First of All has 10 tracks, it would qualify as an album but Diamond explained that the EP was born because he had created so many songs in the process of making his next album.
An EP (meaning extended play) is longer than a single but shorter than an album.
But for the 32-year-old awarding-winning musician the main difference between the EP and the album is the amount of fanfare:
"When you tell people [it’s an] album the expectation becomes too high, I think that’s why some people say you know what: 'I’m going to give an EP.'"
Diamond told DJ Edu that even with his success and experience, the pressure is still there when it comes to releasing new music.
"I take it very seriously. I’m thinking of how I can promote our music from back home, so for every song I do I have to make sure I don’t let my people down. No matter how much I do this, I still feel: 'But OK what if they don’t like this song?'."
Diamond explained why he also incorporated some lovy-dovy tunes on his EP.
"People love those songs, even I do love them. You know you can be on the bed and you want to listen to a song and it can’t be up-tempo, you need something that can make you feel like you are floating."
He added, "It’s good nowadays to release a song that can be played in the room and in the club as well so it makes it easier to get more streams.”
