Emmy says her 'Taunet Nelel' song was Kibaki and Lucy's favourite

• Emmy said after her first encounter with President Kibaki in 2010, she was invited to perform at other state and corporate functions.

Gospel singer Emmy Kosgei has paid tribute to the late President Mwai Kibaki while sharing her encounter with him that led to their mutual friendship.

Emmy said her first encounter was in 2010 when she was among the artists who performed at the constitution promulgation event.

She performed her famous song Taunet Nelel which was President Kibaki and his late wife Lucy Kibaki' favourite song.

"He and the late firstlady were great lovers of my music,God used them to open doors to national,corporate and state events. To begin with, I had the singular honor to sing during the #promulgation of the #newconstitutionofKenya at uhurupark in #2010.

I can vividly remember the call to lock the dates and told to sing #taunetnelel as it is on this national event, I connected when I saw on the media #ANewDawn.. an experience I can never forget..#mamaLucy danced her heart out," she wrote.

After their first encounter, she was invited to perform at other state and corporate functions.

Emmy recalled one of the functions when President Kibaki called her to ask about her song and allowed her to sell CD’s of the song to the invited guest.

"...When we finished the President on his meet and great asked how and where do you record" he was so impressed with smiles on his face, he asked if we had more cds/DVDs I said "yes" he said lete uzia hawa wote " he allowed us to hawk CDs in statehouse function."

Emmy added that she had the privilege to sing in 99% of all his functions including the burial of the late John Michuki in his village.

"So humbled by what God has been doing in the little the He entrusted me with. May his soul rest in eternal peace."

President Mwai Kibaki will be buried at his home in Othaya in a state burial on Saturday.
