Media personality and musician, Willis Raburu popularly known as Bazu, on Tuesday recorded a statement with the police reporting the crime of impersonation.
Raburu through his Instagram page exposed an email address and a phone number alleged to be asking money from people in the name of the media personality.
Raburu who hosts the 10 over 10 show on Citizen TV asked his fans to be careful when they receive any email from the account.
He clarified that the show doesn't require any artiste to people to be hosted but there is a right channel that is followed.
He added that the matter is being investigated and asked his followers to report such matters immediately.
"I have this evening made a formal call to the police to report a crime. It has come to my attention that there is a person impersonating me on email through a fake Willis Raburu email and phone number. They are purporting to be booking interviews for 10 over 10 and for music.
They may attempt to hack you or cheat you through a referral code as well. As the investigation continues, I would like to state that 10 over 10 does not ask for money to host artists."
The statement further said that this was not the first time he had received such stories.
"Kindly do not pay to be on the show. There is a proper channel to be on the show and reach out to me or the producers. I remain committed to make the industry grow in the best way I can."
He then urged his fans to be vigilant and to immediately report such cases so that they can deter would-be opportunists from taking advantage of innocent, hardworking Kenyans."
