Comedian and scriptwriter Eddie Butita, hopes Bahati's tears when he alleged that he was asked to step down as Mathare MP, were not personal and that he has good intentions for the people of Mathare.
On Monday, a teary Bahati said that moments after he was handed the MP nominations certificate, he allegedly received calls from ODM asking him to recall his certificate.
Butita who was speaking in an interview with YouTuber, Nicholas Kioko, said he knows some people are in politics to either enrich themselves or for personal gains and hopes that, that is not the case with the musician.
"Bahati alikuwa analia juu amekatazwa kusaidia wakenya ama ni personal hii kitu unajua kuna vitu na need ku understand as in alikuwa analia juu wamemkataza kusaidia watu." (Why was Bahati crying? Was it because he was denied a chance to help Kenyans or was it because it was personal for him? There are things I need to understand)
He further added, "Wewe unataka kusaidia wakenya unalia? Mimi nikiulizwa naona hizi siasa ni personal. Watu wanajua kitu wanatafuta but at least ame understand kuiba ni mbaya umeona vile msee huskia vibaya akiibiwa." (You are crying yet you want to help people? If you ask me I feel like politics are personal and people know what they are after but at least he now understands that it is not OK to steal)
Just like many Kenyans, Butita advised his friend Bahati to vie for Mathare MP as an independent candidate.
"But I wish him well let him vie as an independent candidate. Right now the way politics is structured you can vie as an independent candidate and if people love you you'll still get into parliament but I hope it's for the people."
Butita says he has no bad blood with the Bahati's and it is only that they never agreed on a certain issue.
