Andrew Kibe has become arguably Kenya's top social critic

• Andrew Kibe emigrated to the US and has been making controversial content while there.

Andrew Kibe has replaced Edgar Obare as the man celebrities love to hate. Why is that? The man has become the biggest social commentator on everything Kenyan celebs.

That's not all, he will even go at our corrupt politicians and even critic current events. If it is happening in Kenya and it's trending, Kibe will most likely have an opinion on it.

Last week his name trended after the death of former Men's Conference chairperson, Jackson Kibor, with many touting him as a possible replacement.

But that wasn't all, popular YouTuber Mungai Eve and her boyfriend, Trevor were up in arms about him.

Trevor was so upset with Kibe that he even vowed to beat up Kibe if/when he comes back to Kenya after his long American hiatus.

Na bado, Guardian Angel also called out the former radio presenter for attacking his wife, Esther Musila. He was so upset with Kibe he called him a demon.

All that from the past one week!

But why are more and more celebs calling him out while they were content to ignore him in the past? There are two reasons I can think of and they are;

1. His reach is increasing every day

Kibe can't be ignored anymore and is doing brisque business on YouTube.

He passed the 100k subscriber mark earlier this month and has already added another 28k followers since then.

His hilarious YouTube streams that air from 10 p.m-12 a.m every weekday average over 2k Kenyans who watch the live show.

That is seriously impressive for any streamer with an audience from the third world.

2. Kenyans are starting to see Kibe as an authority

It was easy to dismiss him as misogynistic when he pivoted away from his radio roots to the content creation he's doing right now but those celebs can't use that excuse anymore.

But his alternate take on events (which normally goes against the grain) is being appreciated by more Kenyans who appreciate a different perspective.

His opinion is growing to the point that a sizeable section of his supporters are women! (Let's not forget that his content is geared to men)

My conclusion:

Is it fair to dismiss Kibe as a mere troll or Kenya's top social critic? Why can't he be both? I think Kibe is a troll whose satire is much needed in a society that lacks nuanced social commentary.

Just like Trevor Noah and Dave Chappelle, comedians are supposed to hold a mirror to society and expose things in it that we would rather not address.

Kibe might not be your cup of tea, but his point of view is much-needed in a day and age when social discourse is being increasingly censored.

But what do I know...
