Singer Marya says the music industry is not easy for female artists.

Speaking in an interview with Mungai Eve, the mother of one said most people in the industry want to take advantage of you so they can help you.

"As a female artist, there is a long story before they give you the gig. Men wanting to call you at wee hours and so on," she said, adding that it is even worse when you don't have someone to manage you.

"If you don't have a manager, it is even worse. When I was under Ogopa, it was easy as they could get us through the company but even during that time, at some point, they would ask to speak to me directly."

"You have to know who is genuine and who is not. Artistes do not like helping each other."

Asked if she is in touch with Avril who they did 'Chokoza' together, she said;  "Avril and I were mere acquaintances. Just that we were signed in the same record label."

She said she is struggling to come back as an artiste due to lack of finances.
