Ferdinand Omanyala crowned Sportsman of the year

Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala has been crowned the Sportsman of the year in the 2021 SOYA Awards. 

Omanyala scooped the award, beating legendary Marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge. 

Other than Kipchoge, Omanyala was also contesting alongside rally champion Carl Tundo, rugby player Alvin 'Buffa' Otieno and Tokyo Olympics 800m gold medalist Emmanuel Korir.

"Sports Athlete of the yearšŸ’„šŸ’„Thank you to everyone who supported me in 2021," Omanyala reacted on the win.

The sportswoman award of the year was clinched by Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon -a Tokyo Olympic Champion.  

Other winners in the SOYA awards include;

Hall of Fame -Esther Ouna (Volleyball) Team manager cum coach Posta Volleyball team

Most promising boy- Heristone Wanyonyi, beat Vincent Keter and Andrew Mutoka.

Most promising girl- Teresia Muthoni

Coach of the year- Charles Okere (Harambee Starlets)

Sports team of the year women- Vihiga Quuens

Sports Team of the year men-Kenya Sevens Rugby

Sportswoman of the year living with disability-Nancy Chelagat

Sportsman of the year living with disability-Simon Kibai (Deaflympics)
