Amina Mude, the wife of NTV journalist Ben Kitili has opened up on a medical condition that left her gaining excess weight.
According to Amina, her weight gain began after she gave birth to her firstborn.
"Growing up i never had issues with weight...but when i got my first child in 2013/2014 i added weight. I thought it is the normal pregnancy weight, 6 months down the line i am still adding more weight, i moved from 69 KGs to 90, it was my wake up call," she shared.
The excess weight sent an alarm to Amina, who decided to seek a medical opinion on it. She learnt that there was an underlying health disorder responsible for the weight gain.
"I learnt that i have an underlying condition - an autoimmune disorder known as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis . It is when your thyroid is underworking, so you get a ray of symptomps from cold feet to hair loss, depression and weight issues," Amina said on Your World show.
She realised that intermittent fasting and some gym sessions can help her cut the excess weight.
"I tried a new diet. I carried the 30 KGs for like 5 years. When i got pregnant with my second child I knew was starting with a heavy weight. I decided to carry the pregnancy then try to understand how to loose the weight.
Two months after getting my baby i decided to do intermittent fasting. Within 9 months i lost over 30 KGs."
