Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is under criticism after announcing that they have depleted the potato chips in their local stores.

In a post on their social media, KFC said Kenyans ate alot of chips during the festivities, exhausting their stores.

"Fam it was truly a Furaha December. Mlikula sherehe with your KFC faves. Ya'll loved our chips a little too much, and we've run out. Sorry! Our team is working hard to resolve the issue.

In the meantime here are some SWAP options for combo meals if you are craving our Kuku," they said.

This announcement has sparked uproar from Kenyans who are questioning why the franchise is importing potatoes yet they are available locally.

Politician Karen Nyamu castigated KFC for offering only a few jobs to Kenyans without promoting farmers.

"Wow ! I had no idea KFC potatoes are 100% imported. What a joke! So what are we gaining from this foreign investment if our farmers don't get to supply waru(potatoes) and kuku(chicken)? A few waiter and cashier jobs? Food import regulations must be reviewed. Must," Karen shared.

Here are some reactions fro Kenyans.

@ Kerebei - "Traveling along Eldoret Nairobi road , many of our Kenyans women are selling potatoes.why can you just support them rather to importing."

@ Njeri - "Potatoes grown in Kenya in places like Nyandarua are so yum. Source those. You guys importing potatoes while our local farmers have potatoes is outright SOCIAL IRRESPONSIBILITY on your part. You can afford to "support local" in America but not in Kenya?"

@ Njoroge - "If you cannot support our farmers, we should equally avoid your products. I will personally not patronise your stalls until you buy sizeable raw materials from kenya. Goodbye!"

@ Stockmaster - "How are you ensuring the maize flour used for the Ugali meets your global standards in relation to food safety? Shouldn't it be a case of whats good for the goose is good for the gander....if you are using local flour why not local potatoes?"
