Ever since declaring that she is a member of the LGBTQ community, media personality Chris Makena Njeri has been a fierce defender of gay rights in Kenya.

Recently, Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, revealed plans to send gay students out of boarding schools.

This announcement has irked Makena, who describes it as an attack on students who are part of the LGBT community.

"Growing up as a gay child was hard enough. The government of Kenya announcing that gay kids should be kicked out of boarding schools is a direct attack to their human rights. All kids are equal gay or not and the parents to those kids have rights as well," Makena Njeri noted.

The Bold Networks CEO added that such a move could lead to mental illness among the targeted students.

"This should be strongly condemned because we are only fueling the discrimination and adding more mental health issues amongst our young kids who need only love and guidance. You don’t not choose your gender identity or sexual orientation," she said.

Makena further shared that her strong activism on gay rights in Kenya is meant to defend such students from discrimination.

She added,

"I repeat again I do not do this work for the weak haters that come to my page to heckle. I do this work for the young kids who have to go through a system that chokes their existence something they have no control over and something they shouldn’t be discriminated against. I do this work for the parents who have gay children and love them to bits and want them to have an easy life full of love.

This heteronormative culture is selfish and we cannot let the government continue pushing children out of school because of their identity. Let’s talk discipline not discrimination because of being a normal human being like everyone else!"
