Why Nick Odhiambo is right about Amber Ray

Popular radio presenter Nick Odhiambo chose violence yesterday after responding to a sultry Instagram post made by Amber Ray.

In his response, the man with a booming voice wrote, "A rare picture of a socialite in their office/natural habitat awaiting next assignment."

His response was taken as an insinuation that Amber allegedly sells her body in order to survive.

Amber tried to keep her responses to Nick classy but one could see that he had really bothered her.

"I think I’m the nicest rudest most caring nonchalant idgaf person you will ever meet," was one of her replies.

Another of her responses was a warning where she wrote, "One thing people gotta understand about extremely kind, nice, loving people...is that their other side is just as extreme  Good morning world."

Now with the backstory done, this is where I come in. Is Nick right? Yes, technically he is. Why? First, let's define what a socialite is?

A socialite is a person, usually from a wealthy and aristocratic background, who plays a prominent role in and is very frequently involved in high society. A socialite generally spends a significant amount of time attending various fashionable social gatherings, often to the detriment of traditional employment.

From the above definition, a socialite is someone who comes from wealth who does nothing of note in society but is still well-known.

The first prominent socialite was Paris Hilton from the wealthy Hilton clan. She made it big in Hollywood cause of her LOOKS and connections.

She had no discernible talent other than being from rich stock, being beautiful and being where the famous people held court.

One thing she also did well was to sell s3x, meaning that she exposed herself to the media in a way that made her a s3x symbol for young impressionable men.

After Miss Hilton's reign, her assistant beautiful Kim Kardashian took over and would prosper like no socialite before her or after.

What sold her to the audiences was the famous s3x tape that made her a household name and launched her on a path to become a dollar billionaire.

Now that we know what a socialite is supposed to look like and how they make money, we can investigate the ones we have in Kenya and look at their chief difference.

The American socialite comes from relative wealth and as such doesn't need to sell her body to men (but does so through the media), while her Kenyan counterpart comes from poverty.

Unless one is a model in Kenya or an actress, how does a young, beautiful woman who wants to make money off her looks make money? I'll give you one guess...

Prominent socialites like Huddah and Bridget Achieng have all spoken about sleeping with men for money in the past.

That means the Kenyan counterpart has to leverage her looks and body to make money from every interaction that she has.

That might mean the socialite either sells her body/looks to rich suitors for money like Huddah and Bridget did in the past or like Amber sell the promise of s3x like the movies do.

The crucial caveat is this;

While Amber might not be sleeping around with men for money, that doesn't mean her body isn't being used as leverage for the beauty products she advertises or as an allure to prospective men who might want to date her.

As such, what Nick said is accurate in my books but technically.
