Pombe zii! Why Zuchu turned down a lucrative beer brand endorsement

Diamond Platnumz' protege, Zuchu, turned down a lucrative endorsement deal with a beer company to preserve her faith.

The musician explained that her mother - a Tanzanian iconic singer Khadija Kopa - had earlier warned her against promoting such products.

She also insisted that she does not take alcohol and that her religion does not permit the consumption of alcohol.

Zuchu listened and honoured her mom's wishes.

The Sukari hitmaker revealed all this during a recent interview, Zuchu said, ''It would have been unfair to accept the deal. If you advertise alcoholic drinks, you must drink yourself but I do not drink."

Adding, "My mum asked me to promote any other brand but not alcohol. But also it was not in me, I do not like to represent alcohol because am a Muslim."

The deal was worth millions of shillings.

Her manager Wasafi Music's Sallam SK said that Zuchu despite turning down that deal, is still an international brand and her fees "have gone up, we no longer charge small money."

He continued, "The world has changed right now, and as the demand for her services goes up, so are the charges. That is why we have been marketing her widely. Right now she charges Ksh 2 million for shows outside Tanzania."
