• We thought it was a joke, we did not know where we were going. Eventually, we went and stayed with a friend in Umoja.
Gospel Daddy Owen has shared how he and his brother Rufftone were once kicked out of their home by their late dad.
According to Owen, Rufftone was then a secular artiste thus would come home at the wee hours of the night something that did not sit well with his dad.
Speaking during an interview on Churchill show, he shared:
''When we started doing music, he (dad) kicked us out of the house because Rufftone was doing secular music.
Secular music at the time was demanding and one had to perform in clubs.
You don't expect to knock on the door at 3:00 am and your dad akufungulie."
Owen and Rufftone did not know that the video of a cheetah being chased away was their dad's way of telling them it's time they left his house.
"He then asked us if we had learned anything. We were 18/19 so we never understood.
He then told us we could not stay in the same house together, It was either he left or we left.
We thought it was a joke, we did not know where we were going. Eventually, we went and stayed with a friend in Umoja."
Owen added that at first it was hard for their dad to understand how they were surviving on music alone but he eventually did.
''Sometimes he never understood what we do.
He expected us to wake up wear a suit and go to an office. He did not understand how one could work for maybe two days a week and still be able to pay our bills.''
