Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz has been the target of ridicule from a few fans in East Africa after his defeat in the BET awards on June 28.

Diamond, who was contesting for the International act Category lost to Nigeria's Burna Boy.

After his defeat, his mother wrote him an encouraging message, saying he is still a winner.

"Naseeb mwanangu jua kwenye mashindano kuna kushinda na kushindwa...

(Naseeb my son, know that in a competition there is winning and losing)

(It is important to realize that when you were nominated for the competition, I regarded you as a winner, so take heart and your music life that shines will continue.)" his mother Sandra Kassim told him.

Other than his mother's opinion, Diamond is truly a winner regardless of the performance at the BET awards.

The singer has stood out as the leading artist in Tanzania, and East Africa at large.

Recently, he inked a deal with Warner Music company, and through it, the singer stares at international recognition.

Also, his upcoming reality show 'Young famous African' on Netflix is also a big win for Diamond Platnumz.

The name of the reality show itself suggests that the singer has a big influence in Africa.

The BET loss could have been influenced by the petition signed by Tanzanians, contesting his nomination because of his support for the Magufuli government.

This does not mean he is an average person when it comes to music. As he once said in a fake American accent, Diamond is a 'go gerrah.'
