A man suspected to be behind various incidents of city carjackings was finally caught in the act at Galleria Mall on Sunday.

The man who goes by the name Bwire was caught red handed trying to break into a car that had been parked outside the shopping mall.

Speaking to Mpasho, an eyewitness who preferred to stay anonymous told this writer that his car happened to be parked next to the suspect's when he was arrested.

He further said that Bwire was driving a Toyota Mark II which had KBD 770F registration plates  (see photo below) but its insurance sticker had a different number plate on it - KAY 222Y.

Apparently, he gains access into the vehicles using a shiv like device, after which he steals the car or the valuables inside it which mostly include laptops and documents.

Police officers who apprehended him say they have been on his heels for many months as they believe he is responsible for carjackings and office break-ins in Westlands.

He was later taken to Lang'ata Police Station and will be arraigned in court later today.

Although recent statistics indicate that cases of carjackings have dropped by at least 22 percent nationally, the crime has witnessed a sharp increase in the city with thieves changing their tactics each and every day.
