Embakasi North MP James Gakuya was on Wednesday night arrested and locked up in police cells for allegedly conning fellow MP Benson Mutura of Makadara of Sh7 million.

Gakuya was summoned to the Kasarani police station where he was grilled before being detained. This was after Mutura complained that Gakuya had obtained money from him in exchange for a piece of land in Thome area which later turned out to belong to someone else.

Mutura had already started construction on the land when the real owner emerged. It was then that he reported the matter to police. Police say preliminary findings show the land belongs to someone else and that the papers used to sell it to Mutura were fake. Gakuya was expected in court Thursday morning to face charges of obtaining money fraudulently and forgery.
