I don't know whether to call it family rivalry or just keep quiet and leave you, my reader, to deliver the judgment. Veteran dancer Kanda King (he started out as Kanda Kid) was shown by his own blood and flesh, Kanda Juniour, that his retirement is nigh.

During the much-published 11th edition of the bi-monthly music party Koroga Festival on Sunday at the Arboretum gardens in Nairobi, King's son, who is barely 13 years old, outdid him in a jig right before the eyes of the thousands of revellers and chief performer, Congolese Lingala-Rhumba maestro, Koffi Olomide.

King was first on stage, showing his dancing prowess to the amazement of Olomide's energetic and ever-effervescent dancing troupe.

Dressed in a black see-through net-shirt, King gave his all but seemed to tire out fast. Age is really catching up with him. Or so it seems. His son, however, was at his dad's mercy, maybe just to redeem his input as the de facto godfather of the Kenyan dance.

The kid, who will be sitting his KCPE this year at Neema School in Donholm, Nairobi, was an ultimate crowd-puller, as he offered a wowing dance act. It was not only the crowd that was pleased by his agile dance routines but Koffi himself. He lifted him aloft as a way to show appreciation as the audience cheered on.

Hope King learned his lesson, to never go competing with the kid again, or he suffers irredeemable humiliation!
