A sombre mood engulfed traders at Rodi Kopany market in Homa Bay Sub County after a 33 years old man stabbed himself to death after stabbing his ex-lover in Homa bay County.

The man, identified as Tobias Otieno, was said to have disagreed with his former lover identified as Irene Akoth, 23.

The man became wild and removed a kitchen knife from his pocket and stabbed her in broad daylight yesterday as she was preparing chips for sale along the Rodi Kopany Ndhiwa road.

On witnessing the incident, members of the public rushed to the scene and rescued the lady from the irate man.

Akoth was then rushed to California hospital while bleeding profusely where she is still recuperating.

Confirming the incident to KNA, the chief of Kalanya Kanyango location Fredrick Onyango said that the man wanted to renew their relationship with the lady but she adamantly refused the offer prompting the man to stab her.

Onyango further revealed that when the man realised that the lady had been rescued, he stabbed himself four times leading to his untimely death.

At the same time, Onyango said that after the police officers searched the deceased pocket, they found pesticides for ticks and a kitchen knife with bloodstains.

The administrator appealed to young men to look for better ways of resolving issues instead of resorting to killing themselves.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Homa bay County Referral hospital awaiting postmortem while police officers have launched investigations into the incident.
