Only in Kenya where we borrow loans to pay for stolen money from borrowed loans. Eurobond anyone? But I digress.

This week has seen one of Kenya's governors nearly see death. Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos must have been had the fright of his life this week after a brush with death that many black men in America endure, death by gun.

Governor Tolgos had a brush with death when a drunk forest guard aimed his rifle at him, threatening to open fire.

The politician and his entourage were touring projects in Cherang’any/Chebororwa Ward when they encountered the hostile officer who was dressed in civilian clothing.

And why was the officer angry at the governor? Apparently, the Takwei primary school is located within the forest with the school being adjacent to the forest station where the officer is attached to. He asked the governor:

What do you want here?

He added:

If you go into the school, I will get my gun and shoot you.

If the governor and his entourage thought he was joking they were in for a rude shock, as he dashed into his house and returned, in uniform and armed with a G3 rifle. He then went ahead to cock his firearm.

At this point is when his colleagues pounced on him and disarmed him. He was then reportedly locked up in a room to sober up. An area resident Paul Kibet:

The drunk officer was perhaps irked by the presence of the government delegation and most likely feared the visit would expose their illegal activities in the forest.

Tolgos was not to be left out adding his sentiment:

We can’t allow this to happen… how can we have security officers living in a school compound and getting so drunk in such a way.

North Rift KFS Enforcement Commander David Rono said investigations are underway.
