The Easter holiday was a very embarrassing one for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s body guard.
According to a police report filed by the Embakasi division, the president’s bodyguard was arrested, disarmed and later released for flounting the curfew rules.
The report read,
“Visit by a senior officer. At around 2200hrs on 12/4/2020 Major General Matiri who is the commanding officer national command centre for COVID-19 visited a road block mounted at the former GSU t/school junction by officers from Embakasi command.
“His observation was that most of the violaters of the curfew order were police officers and army officers.
He communicated the same to the IG-NPS. During the time, there came Mr Kiragu SP (Uhuru’s bodyguard) who is attached to prescot and the Major Gen. ordered him to drive back to where he was coming from.
“Kiragu tried to explain that he was from work and was going to his residence to sleep as he was reporting on duty early in the morning.”
The police report continued,
“A misunderstanding arose and the Maj. Gen. called the Inspector General accusing Kiragu for lacking discipline and had a gun. He handed over the phone to me (Divpol) Embakasi to speak to the IG. The IG ordered me to immediately disarm the officer, arrest him and place him in cells.
“The officer was escorted to Embakasi police station but before he could be booked in, consultations were made and the IG instructed that he be released.
“He was released at around 2300 hrs and he left while complaining about embarrassment.”
