Walking through the busy streets of downtown Nairobi today, you'll hardly go without noticing tall white tents decorated with posters, strategically positioned to welcome as many passers-by as possible.

They're usually busy over the weekends and if you let your curiosity get the better of you, it will be paid by a warm welcome. You'll probably be ushered to a seat, rightfully so, away from the hot sun. You'll then be given a neat brochure or write-up as the lady or gentleman present begins to tell you about a condition that has been subject to stigma and discrimination.

These tents also serve as testing centers besides creating awareness about HIV and anybody can get to know their status.

The aim is to let people know that HIV is not a death sentence and knowing your status can help you start to live your life better.

In fact, efforts on creating awareness and spreading the truth about HIV have indeed paid off. This is not only on a local scale but globally. New HIV infections are on the decline. However, the global target is to eliminate vertical transmission.

It's been noted that HIV-related deaths continue to be the leading cause of death among adolescents 15-19, with an estimated 29 new HIV infections occurring every hour among this age group (UNICEF 2015).

This is why these tents are, again, so important and why the campaign dubbed Anza Sasa is absolutely pivotal. To encourage more and more people to get tested, start treatment and live well.
