If you are constantly aware of current affairs in our country, you probably know that the voter registration process has now ended. However, if you’re a Kenyan in diaspora, don’t feel left out. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has got you covered.

The main aim of getting Kenyans in the diaspora to vote is so that they may participate in the election of the country's next leader. They will have the privilege to vote for their preferred presidential candidate in the upcoming election which will be held on Tuesday, 8th August 2017.

How Kenyans In The Diaspora Will Be Able To Vote

Kenyan Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates can be designated by the Commission as registration centres for Kenyans living outside the country. For purposes of the 2017 Elections, the Commission will conduct voter registration in Bujumbura in Burundi, Arusha and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, Kigali in Rwanda, Kampala in Uganda and Pretoria in South Africa.

So there’s no reason why you shouldn’t vote.

The Commission will conduct voter registration for Kenyan citizens residing in the 5 countries mentioned above from 20th February 2017 to 6th March 2017. All you need to do to register is to first make sure you have the following qualifications:

-Be a Kenyan citizen,

-Be 18 years of age and above,

-Have a valid Kenyan passport

-Be of sound mind.

-Not have been convicted of an election offence during the preceding five years

The next thing to do is to visit the designated registration to do your registration. You should carry your valid passport. You will then fill in the Application for Registration form (Form J). After that, you will be given a registration acknowledgement slip bearing your voter’s details. However, this will not a requirement for you to vote.
