U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to be in the country towards the end of this month. He'll be touring Nairobi for a very short time. He should consider visiting Mama Hawa Auma, a 73-year-old granny. This is because Auma is her aunt and is literally selling charcoal for survival.

“I don’t know what wrong or crime I committed in this world to deserve such a life. I don’t know who can bear this pain. It is painful,” she said in a conversation with The Nairobian. The granny lost her husband back in 1993 and has since been surviving on her own by selling charcoal.

“Though I had a dark complexion, the charcoal business has made me darker because I handle charcoal from morning to evening and leave nearly with nothing to take back home,” Hawa says. She says that she's been foresaken to the utmost and would like things to change. The maximum she can earn for a day is 200 shillings.

Obama jets in for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) summit later this year. It'll be held in Nairobi between 24th and 27th this month.
