Mercy Masika has confessed that there was a time she was ready to give up on God and the church in general.

This was because she felt nothing in her life was working out for her.

Mercy said that her decision was changed when her 'sister in Christ' reached out to her.

There is a time I wanted to give up on the church but somehow my pastor found out. She called me and assured me that God had so much in store for me. I did not give up on God because I had seen his goodness before. There were times I had no food to feed my kids and he would send someone with exactly what I needed.

Mercy Masika also revealed that when she wrote ‘Mwema’ she was at a point where she had already given up on music.

She felt like God was too busy to hear her prayers.

During an interview with the Play House, a show hosted by rapper Astar, Mercy says she felt like God had turned His face from her.

She says,

I was doing a Masters in Community Development because music was not working. When we shot the song, Mwema, I was only doing it as a by the way.

Mercy adds,

My sister thought the song sounded too normal. I already had other songs but nothing was working for me. We shot the song in 1 hour amazing enough the song that was a joke turned out to be my break through song.
