An 80-year-old man from Passenga in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua county died mysteriously on Friday night, just hours after receiving a dowry from his son-in-law.

Ndung’u Kabiru’s lifeless body was discovered next to his bedroom door by his daughter, Jenifer Wanjiru who had gone to check on him on Saturday morning.

Wanjiru told the Star her father had visitors who brought him the dowry on Friday evening.

The party ended at 6 pm after which both guests and family members left for their homes.

However, on Saturday morning when Wanjiru went to check on Kabiru who lives alone, she found the door to his house unlocked.

“I entered and saw him lying next to the bedroom door. I called a neighbour who assisted me to put him on the sofa and then we called a doctor,” she said

She said the doctor told them their father had already passed away hours before.

Wanjiru said it was difficult to establish what killed Kabiru given that there were no signs of a struggle in his house and he had no physical injury.

She suspected he could have taken too much alcohol.

Her sentiments were echoed by Passenga chief, Daniel Muniu.

Muniu said it could be after the party, someone might have brought him alcohol that killed him since he was a known drunkard. Three empty bottles of Vienna vodka were recovered at the scene.

Muniu confirmed nothing had been taken from Kabiru’s house including the money brought by his in-laws as dowry price. He did not say how much it was, but said the in-laws confirmed it was intact.

The body was moved by police to J.M.Memorial mortuary, Ol kalou where a postmortem will be carried out to ascertain the cause of his death.
