The pubic hair is in place to protect the sensitive genital region, and being waxed completely removes the protection it provides. This allows bacteria to easily enter your skin, thus causing infections.

3.Skin lightning and bleaching

Many African women, not only in Kenya, are hooked on bleaching products in a bid to look like certain people that they admire, not knowing what it’s side effects are.

Socialite Vera Sidika underwent skin lightening in the UK to “increase” her appeal. She said she is in the public sphere and clients prefer to work with light skinned women.

Creams, pills and injections that promise to lighten skin are increasingly popular, despite many being illegal.

Most bleaching products contain Topical Hydroquinone, which may cause leukemia. It also slows down the amount of melanin in the skin, leading to a lightened skin tone.

Hydrooquinone products can lead to a condition called ‘Ochronosis’ which causes blue-black dark patches on certain areas of the skin making you sensitive to sun rays. This makes the user more prone to serious sunburns and skin cancer.

4. Breast implants

5. Butt and hips enlargement

Many women pay a lot of attention to their behind and hips because these body parts are central to their attractiveness in the eyes if men.

Out of the need to boost their confidence, some resort to enlarging these body parts, not knowing the side effects that come with it.

A report by Mail Online showed that at least 15 women died from butt implants between 2011 and 2015.

One of the major complications include haemorrhage (bleeding) during surgery, infection and rapture of the implant which causes ulceration causing blood in that region to be cut-off.
