Ken joined Starehe Boys after he scored 617 marks out of the possible 700 in KCPE at Olympic Primary.

In a past interview with Daily Nation, he said it was at the prestigious school, where he first slept on a bed.

It was at Starehe where I used a bed for the first time in my life, graduating from shared mats or mattresses spread on the floor. Oh, what a change it was for me.

He also said he opted to stay in school over the holidays than go home

PRIOR TO SECONDARY SCHOOL, I HAD NOT KNOWN A THREE-MEAL DIET. EATING FROM THE TRASH BINS WAS JUST NORMAL. I SELDOM WENT BACK HOME, CHOOSING INSTEAD TO REMAIN AT SCHOOL STUDYING AND WORKING.

Geoffrey Muchiri  My senior and roommate at Starehe Boys Centre. That's how close cancer is striking. RIP bro. All is well.

Mohammed Wehliye A sad day for the nation and Starehe in particular. We lost Ken Okoth and also Nick Muriuki, former chairman of the management committee of Starehe.

Shaban Mwangi As a society to which Hon. Ken was a brother & a member, we will miss him. He put to practice the words of "The Charge" as given by our Boss, The Late Dr. Geoffrey W. Griffin.

Dan Kirwa Such a painful loss to the society at large... this was an exceptional breed of an MP @OldStarehians have lost a great mind and such a gentle soul.

David Kamau I have prayed and looked forward to a day of Ken's presidency...that is cut short!

Fame and money are fleeting, improving life-long opportunities for those in need are golden; Ken did that with valour.
