A man slaughtered his father and stepmother in a bizarre incident before he walked to a police station and surrendered himself in Kiirua, Meru County.

A resident had called police at Kiirua police station on Thursday, March 14 evening to report a man had killed two people in the Kibirichia area of Buuri East Subcounty before the suspect walked in with the killer weapon that had bloodstains.

He was arrested and locked up in cells. The suspect is a 35-year-old man.

Police later visited the scene and found the body of the suspect’s father identified as Julius Kirimi, 67, in a pool of blood.

Next to his body was the body of one of his wives identified as Eunice Kangai, 38.

Kirimi has deep cuts on the right hand, right side of the head, left palm and left shoulder all inflicted by a sharp object.

Kangai’s body had deep cuts in the left upper hand, neck, head and right ear.

Police said they had been told the family had a feud over a piece of land, which they suspect prompted the fatal attack.

The security officers moved the bodies to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other investigations.

Police said the murder weapon- a panga- was kept as an exhibit as investigations continue.

Tension grew in the area on Thursday morning with local leaders visiting the area to calm the situation.

Eastern head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Lenny Kisaka said a team is pursuing the macabre murder.

Police plan to produce the suspect in court and seek more time to detain him as investigations go on.

Such killings are on the rise in the region with land and other domestic disputes being the reasons behind the trend.

Police say some murder cases are pending in courts while others are under probe.

According to police, there is a rise in criminal activities in the area some of which have been linked to politics and politicians who are sponsoring vigilantes for gains.

A special team of detectives is pursuing the killings and destruction of property after some local leaders protested the trend.
