Stolen Cookware worth Sh10 million recovered by the police

Detectives on Friday recovered an assortment of cooking appliances that had been stolen while on transit to Malindi from the port of Mombasa.

One suspect was arrested following the operation by detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

The appliances were recovered at Saika area within Nairobi County by a joint team of detectives drawn from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau based in Nairobi.

The officers were assisted by their counterparts from based in Kilindini.

According to the DCI, the container with the goods worth over Sh10 million is suspected to have been diverted by the driver in collaboration with others.

The driver failed to deliver the goods to the intended recipient, claiming that the truck had developed mechanical problems at Kikambala, along Mombasa-Malindi highway.

"It is after the consignee made a report at Kilindini Police Station when investigations regarding the disappearance commenced, leading to the recovery of the shipment in Saika off Kangundo road," the DCI said in a statement.

The recovery of the goods come hours after  detectives arrested two suspected fraudsters along Ngong Road.

The DCI said the duo had defrauded unsuspecting members of the public over Sh880,000 by the time of their capture.

The duo had posed as employees of the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company and falsely promised their victims that they were in a position to offer them job opportunities.

"Upon interrogation, it was established that the two are habitual fraudsters wanted by detectives based at Dandora," the DCI said in a statement.
