Two people have been arrested in connection to journalists' attack in Matungulu, Machakos County.

Machakos County police boss Patrick Lobolia said the duo were nabbed after police swung into action following the Monday morning incident.

The three journalists were attacked during a botched chang’aa den raid at Ngomeni village in Tala location in Matungulu subcounty at around 10am.

The trio, all correspondents of local FM radio and TV stations, had reportedly accompanied locals to the scene when they were attacked.

They included Mike Ndunda of Kamba TV, Richard Muasya (Athiani FM) and Kamba TV’s Boniface Mutisya.

“If there are any operations, police should be involved,” Lobolia told the Star hours after the incident.

Police officers have been dispatched to the scene where afresh raid is undergoing to destroy the illicit–liquor distilling apparatus as more suspects of the attack are pursued.

“The journalists weren’t accompanied by police officers, that’s why they were attacked,” Lobolia said.

The three who all sustained injuries were rushed to Ruai Hospital, Tala branch for medical attention.

Ndunda sustained serious injuries.

“We are here at Ruai Hospital in Tala, Ndunda was seriously injured. Mutisya and I also sustained injuries,” Muasya told the Star on the phone.

Some of the scribes' colleagues and family members went to the hospital to check on their conditions and ensure they got the best treatment possible that they required.

Muasyia and Mutisya were treated and discharged while Ndunda was transferred to a Nairobi hospital for specialized medication.

It isn’t clear why the journalists’ attackers reigned on them while on their line of duty.

The incident happened a week after Tala chief Francis Mulinge together with his assistant and area community policing members raided the same den and confiscated distilling apparatus.
