A man who allegedly stole assorted cigarettes worth Sh249, 816 from Naivas Supermarket has been charged in court.

Kenneth Mutava Shabaya was charged before Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Derrick Kuto where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He is accused of committing the offence on diverse dates between February 3 and April 25 at the Naivas Supermarket on Langata Road in Langata within Nairobi County.

He was charged with committing the offence after he is said to have conspired with others not before the court.

In court, the accused person denied the charges and pleaded for lenient bond terms, saying that he was not a flight risk.

The prosecution did not object to his release on bond and the court released him on Sh300,000 with an alternative cash bail of Sh200,000 with the surety of the same amount.

The magistrate also directed that the accused person be supplied with all the witness statements and documentary evidence that the prosecution intended to rely on.
