Cops in Homa Bay have launched a manhunt for a bishop who retrieved a human skull from Lake Victoria and set it on fire in a dramatic incident.

The bishop based at a local church is wanted over the incident that happened meters from the lake shores at Luanda Nyamasari Beach in Kasgunga East Sub location, police said.

The man of God is reported to have told a congregation that during a night vigil, he had a vision from God that he would find a human skull in the water.

According to police, the bishop had been invited for Easter prayers at a church in Gembe West Location on Saturday.

While at the church, he claimed to have had a vision during the prayers.

In the vision, he said, God revealed to him a human skull on the shore of the lake.

On Sunday morning, the congregation followed him to the beach where he led them into the water and retrieved the skull.

The team then went to the shore where they set fire to the skull.

The police were notified by Kasgunga East Sub-location Assistant Chief who visited the area and found a partially burnt human head resembling a skull.

“By the time police arrived, the bishop had left to unknown destination and efforts to trace him to shed more light on the issue were futile,” police said.

The police photographed the skull and took it to the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary where the morticians confirmed it was a human skull.

The skull was left at the facility awaiting forensic analysis.

Elsewhere in Kisumu, a man was injured by the public after he teargassed revelers in a hotel.

The police said the man had quarreled with the hotel’s watchman alleging that his girlfriend was in the lodging with another man.

He was chased away and threw a teargas canister into the hotel as he escaped with a motorcycle but was arrested.

He was found to be a serving police officer attached to Kasagam police station.

Police said they are yet to know the motive of the drama. He was taken to JOOTRH for treatment.
