Two parents were arrested in Kisumu county last weekend after they allegedly made their 4-year-old son drink alcohol.
The parents were informed that they were arrested after the neighbors complained about the poor upbringing of the son who was rescued and taken to a safe environment for upbringing.
The act attracted mixed reactions after a video of the child appearing drunk was spread on social media. In the video, the boy is seen crying in pain as he struggles to walk, or even get into the bathtub to take a shower.
His mother is seen standing at the door of the house while the neighbors ask why she gave the boy alcohol.
The disappointing video was distributed until it led the relevant agencies to take action where he was rescued and transferred to a safe place and his parents were taken into custody.
The two who are detained at the Kondele Police Station were charged with negligence in the Winam Court on Monday morning.
The action has generated conflicting opinions from some netizens - one group condemning it and demanding strict legal measures to be taken and another group demanding that the parents undergo a mental examination nap engine and be given counseling because they may be going through a very difficult time until it leads to giving the child alcohol instead of food.
Others also felt that the family might not have food to give the child and the only way to cool down the pain in his stomach is to give him alcohol so he can sleep.
