Bodies of two girls aged 13 and eight were found floating in a river in Machakos county.

Police said the bodies were discovered on Wakamotho seasonal river in Ketethani village in Misakwani.

The girls were identified as sisters Evalyne Wanza, 13 and Alvininah Wani of eight years.

They were pupils at Kathayoni Primary School. It is believed they drowned as they tried to cross the swollen river.

However, Machakos police boss Issa Mohamed said they are investigating to establish if the two were killed and dumped at the river.

“We have opened an investigation to cover some grey areas on this incident,” he said.

Mohamed said it is possible the two drowned and it is also likely they were dumped there after murder hence the need for further investigations.

The police boss said they will not rule out any theory for now.

The bodies were moved to the Machakos Funeral Home pending autopsy.

In a village in Emuhaya, Vihiga county, the body of Benjamin Sisila Ambetsa, 44, was also found in a river.

Residents sighted the body in Muboko river and alerted police who moved it to the mortuary.

Police said they are yet to know if the man was killed and the body dumped there, if he died by suicide or drowned accidentally.

A postmortem exercise is set for Wednesday.
