Police are investigating an incident in which the body of a female student was discovered at a hostel in Nairobi.

The body of Nicole Chemutai Serem was found in her wardrobe with a scarf around her neck.

Serem 21, who was a Strathmore University student, was in her second year.

The hostel caretaker said she had failed to see the lady for two days and wondered where she had gone.

She then forced open the door and found Serem in the wardrobe.

Police were called and picked up the body. Langata police boss Benjamin Mwanthi said they had not established the motive of the incident.

He said they had alerted the family and planned an autopsy on the body.

“The body did not have physical injuries when it was discovered and there was no suicide note then. We are investigating it,” he said.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise in the country amid calls to address the trend.

Elsewhere, police are investigating an incident where a woman was found dead in a bar in the Kasarani area, Nairobi.

The woman known as only Njeri aged about 28 had been in the company of two men at the bar before they left her seated there, witnesses told police.

It was until many hours later that the management of the hotel realized she had not moved from her seat and on checking they established she was unresponsive.

The body was picked up to the mortuary ahead of a planned identification and postmortem exercise. No arrest has been made so far.

And police are looking for a group of bodaboda riders who stabbed a man to death in an argument in Mathare slums, Nairobi.

The man identified as Morgan Njuguna, 22 was stabbed and died in hospital after the confrontation.

Witnesses say they had argued over unknown reasons before it degenerated to the fighting and fatal stabbing in the Saturday night incident.

The body was moved to the mortuary as the hunt on the suspected killers goes on.
