Last text messages from Purity Wangechi emerge

The Kenya Institute of Mass Communication student Purity Wangechi met her death for asking her DJ boyfriend to return monies he acquired fraudulently.

According to Purity's close friend who requested anonymity, VDJ Flex - real name John Wanyoike Kibungi - was part of a con gang that stole from unsuspecting Kenyans.

"Before her death, Wangechi was texted by someone she did not know. This person was asking her to please tell the boyfriend, VDJ Flex, to return her money," the source said.

Apparently, the lady had lost Ksh 70,000 to VDJ Flex and she wanted her money back.

The source added, "Her boyfriend did not deny the allegations when Purity confronted him about it."

The friend said that on her last day, Purity went and collected her driving license before heading over to her boyfriend's house to collect her belongings.

"That was the last time we saw her or communicated with her," the friend said, "We only started getting worried when she did not return at 5 pm. That is when I called the boyfriend and he said they were on a road trip to Naivasha and everything was okay."

They later learned that Purity had been killed and dumped by the roadside that same weekend.

VDJ Flexx and two accomplices Kinaiya Kamau and Brendan Muchiri were arraigned at the Kiambu law courts Monday morning.

The court granted detectives custodial orders to hold the suspects for 14 days, as they finalize their investigations. were arrested over the weekend and arraigned in court yesterday. 

Meanwhile, a fourth suspect was yesterday arrested in connection with the grisly murder of the 19-year-old student.

Isaac Kariuki Kibui, 22, was arrested at Thindigua Delish Nail bar in Kiambu and escorted to his house where a comprehensive search was conducted leading to the discovery of a blood-stained jacket, worn by the suspect on the night of the murder.

Police said the jacket, shall be subjected to forensic analysis by experts to establish whether the bloodstains match with samples collected from the deceased, by their crime scene counterparts.

The arrest of Kibui brings the number of suspects in the painful murder to four.

Investigations indicate that Wangechi, 19, met her painful death after discovering that the man she had fallen in love with was a dangerous thug and confronted him.
