The media fraternity is in shock after one of their own was arrested over a vicious crime of passion.

Former Vision Group journalist, Jasper Awio, who wrote for the media house's Luo publication, Rupiny, allegedly slit the throat of his ex-girlfriend, Monica Amongi.

Police in Lira City, Uganda told members of the press, that Jasper surrendered himself to Ojwina police station after the decomposing body of Amongi was discovered in her house where she was staying alone after separating from him in August 2021.

“He confessed to the crime,” according to Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga regional police spokesperson.

“He assaulted the deceased and cut her throat before locking the house and disappearing,” police stated.

Jasper attacked Amongi after his attempts to win her back severally failed. He got even more incensed when she started her romantic journey with another man.

On March 29, 2022, Jasper attacked Monica at her home in Anai Ober cell, Anai ward in Lira city West where he assaulted her and cut her neck before locking the house and disappearing.

Her decomposing body was discovered on April 1, 2022, when neighbours noticed a stench coming from her house and a swarm of flies covering the door.

The late Monicah in her last communication with members of the fourth estate said, "Go your way and I will go my way.”

She was addressing her on-off relationship with Jasper which was full of strife and drama. This was back in August 2021 at the height of their relationship drama.

It is not clear why the relationship deteriorated but once Monicah moved out of Jasper's house, he would still visit her occasionally trying to get her to take him back.

Aftrented her own house to which the now suspected killer frequented, making unsuccessfully attempts to rekindle their relationship.
